This summer, we saw truly shocking tactics employed by anti-choice lawmakers in the NCGA. On July 2, late in the evening, they added a slew of anti-choice provisions onto a bill that was supposed to be about Sharia law. They thought they could push the bill through with no time for floor debate, but our pro-choice champs in the Senate stood up and spoke out. They pointed out the shameful manner in which these laws were introduced, and spoke eloquently about the fact that every North Carolinian deserves access to comprehensive reproductive health care services, including access to safe and legal abortion.
Every day for the rest of the month of September, we’ll be taking some time to thank pro-choice champs in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Today we thank: Senators Robinson, Clodfelter, Kinnaird, and McKissick. These folks voted against SB 353, and before that, they voted against HB 695. A special thank you must go out to Sen. Kinnaird, who is now retired from the NCGA, but served honorably for nine terms. They stood up for women and families when it counted the most.
